There are so many useful websites with huge amounts of information in relation to ecology. A selection have been provided below.


Natural England

The government advisors for the Natural Environment in England. They have a host of advice in relation to protected species and protected sites. They issue guidance and provide Standing Advice in relation to protected species which is very useful.

Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)

The professional membership body representing and supporting ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. The publish useful guidance notes and professional standards, as well as offering courses and training for professional ecologists.

Bat Conservation Trust

A charitable organisation that works to help conserve bats and their habitats. Amongst other things, they run research projects, training courses and offer advice through their National Bat Helpline.

Amphibian and reptile group of the UK (ARG UK)

ARG UK is a charitable organisation committed to the conservation of native amphibians and reptiles and their natural environment by supporting the development of a network of independent volunteer amphibian and reptile groups.

The Mammal Society

The Mammal Society is a charity involved in mammal conservation, leading efforts to collect and share information on mammals, encourage research to learn more about their ecology, distribution and contribute meaningfully to efforts to conserve them.

The Wildlife Trusts

There are 46 different wildlife trusts which are individual charities. Every Wildlife Trust is a member of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, a registered charity in its own right founded in 1912. This central charity’s role is to promote wildlife at a UK and England level and, internally, to lead the development of the movement.

British Trust for Ornithology

A UK charity that focuses on understanding birds and, in particular, how and why bird populations are changing.

Forestry Commission

The Forestry Commission is the government department responsible for protecting, expanding and promoting the sustainable management of woodlands.

Environment Agency

Established in 1996 to protect and improve the environment, they are mainly responsible for regulating major industry and waste; treatment of contaminated land; water quality and resources; fisheries; inland river, estuary and harbour navigations; conservation and ecology.

Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland

A society formed to advance the study, understanding and enjoyment of wild plants and support their conservation in Britain and Ireland.

RSPB

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) was founded in 1889. It works to promote conservation and the protection of birds and the wider environment through public awareness campaigns, petitions and through the operation of nature reserves throughout the United Kingdom
